The quick guide
How to Play WordRush
Find as many unique words as you can before the clock runs out. Trace each word on the board, submit it, and build your score.
Play WordRushStart with the board
- Choose a game. Pick a mode from the home screen. The round intro shows the mode and rule before the board opens.
- Trace a word. Press or drag from one letter tile to the next, then release to submit.
- Keep searching. Accepted words add points immediately. Find another before the timer reaches zero.
What words count?
A submission must satisfy all of the selected mode’s rules:
- Use letters that match the tiles in the order you trace them.
- Move through adjacent tiles, including diagonals, without reusing a tile in the same word.
- Meet the mode’s minimum length. Classic currently requires at least 3 letters.
- Appear in the active WordRush dictionary.
- Be a word you have not already found in that round.
A short word, broken path, dictionary miss, or duplicate is rejected and scores 0. Some modes add another condition, such as a required starting letter.
How points work
Normal scoring is the word length squared: a 3-letter word is worth 9 points, a 4-letter word is worth 16, and a 5-letter word is worth 25. Longer words are worth much more.
Mode rules can add to or reshape that score. For example, Bounty Tiles adds 25 points for each newly claimed charged tile, while team modes show a shared or team score.
When the round ends
In a normal solo round, the timer ending shows your results. You can also tap End Round early. Target modes finish when their target is reached, and Sudden Death ends after a rejected non-duplicate word.
In solo Random Rush, another round can queue after the results screen. Choose End Rush when you are done.
Solo and multiplayer
Solo play gives you a board and a personal clock. For multiplayer, create or join a room from Play with friends; the host chooses the first mode and starts the round.
Players compete on the same board and clock, with live scores and results for the room. In standard competitive play, each player has their own found-word list, so the same board word can be available to more than one player. Co-op shares one team score, while Room Heist uses team claims and locks a claimed long word.
Game modes change the challenge
Every mode keeps the core trace-and-submit loop, then changes one or more settings: board size, timer, minimum length, score target, dictionary, or a special rule.
For a quick comparison of every current option, see WordRush Game Modes.
The mode card and round intro show the exact rule before you start. Custom Game and Party Mode let you choose the grid, minimum length, and timer within the available settings.
