Shifting Board guide
How to Play Shifting Board
Shifting Board is a Wordrush round where the board will not sit still: one unselected tile changes every few seconds, so keep rescanning.
Play Shifting BoardThe fixed round
- A new 4×4 board is yours for 90 seconds.
- Words must be at least 3 letters long and come from the active Wordrush dictionary.
- Each accepted word scores its length squared: 3 letters are 9 points, 4 are 16, and 5 are 25.
One tile changes at a time
About every six seconds, one tile that is not part of your current trace is picked and a new letter is chosen for it. A few seconds before the swap, that tile is highlighted with a changing warning so you can see it coming.
After the letter changes, the tile shimmers and briefly changes colour so the move is obvious. If you prefer reduced motion, the shimmer is replaced by a steady highlight for the same short duration, so the information stays clear.
Any tile involved in an active trace is protected until that trace ends, so a change can never break a word mid-entry. Previously accepted words stay accepted even if their letters later disappear or return.
When the round ends
Scoring is normal Wordrush scoring. The round ends when the 90-second timer reaches zero. In solo play you can choose End Round early; in multiplayer the server chooses every change and all players see the same board at the same moment.
